(Matthew 4:4 NIV- Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God.’”)
Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God. … Those were the very words that completely changed my life spiritually. As believers, I think we’ve all had moments or experiences that really solidified in our hearts “Ok, this whole God thing is for real”. I’ve had several things that have happened in my life where I knew that it was only God, but my very first “spiritual aha moment” happened about 5 years ago when I read Matthew 4:4.
I had been attending church my whole life, but it wasn’t until I read that particular verse for myself that I realized that it was The Word that was the missing piece to my puzzle of life. And it was The Word that would complete me and make me whole. Reading that one verse led to me reading The Bible in It’s entirety and from there my whole life changed because that’s where I found true intimacy with God. My heart longed for greater because I belonged to The Greatest. (1 Corinthians 3:23 NLT- You belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.)
So, what was Jesus really saying when He said, “Man can not live on bread alone.”?
Here’s what I believe. We merely exist without the consumption of The Word of God. And so, to truly live and thrive in all that He’s purposed us to be one must feast on His Word daily. Meaning just as our bodies long for food to function and operate at their best, our spirits hunger and long for the peace, strength, and Life that is God’s Word. (Luke 6:47-48 MSG- These words I speak to you are not mere additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundation words, words to build a life on. If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last.)
I don’t know about you, but I’m completely in love with the phenomenal thought and beautiful truth that through God’s Word— I am built to last. And I pray that you would never lose sight of the fact that through His Word— you too are built to last. … Take a moment to truly allow your spirit to imbibe that truth. Everything we need is found in The Word. Christ is The Word and the more we consume It the more He becomes alive in us.
So today, I just want to remind you that there is Life within His Word and It has the power to love, calm, comfort, strengthen, encourage, inspire, empower, heal, renew, transform, and restore. The greatest gift that we can give to ourselves is to make the choice to partake of The Word and cling to The Life that lies within IT. (Psalm 119:114 MSG- You’re my place of quiet retreat; I wait for Your Word to renew me.)
Abba, today and everyday, increase the hunger of our hearts to seek and embrace the wisdom and truth that lies within Your Word. Give us a greater understanding of the value that It holds in and through our lives. Lord, help us to surrender to the freedom that is found in seeking You and obeying Your Word and Father, in seeking You may we find ourselves and all that You’ve purposed us to be. I pray that we would hide Your Word in our hearts that we would never sin against You. Abba, may our lives always be a reflection of Your Life within us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Your precious Son, and our Lord and Savior— I pray, Amen and so be it.
“Shift from your mind conquering The Bible, down into surrender to The Spirit of God Who will whisper to you what He meant by what He wrote.” ~ Martha Kilpatrick

Such truth! How powerful is God’s word! The days I stay in the WORD and grounded by scripture are so much better than the days I go on my own.

I was just spending time with the Lord this morning thinking about how much His Word comforts, heals, confronts and adjusts my heart and attitudes!

I love pondering the concept of “Word” — it has so many layers of meaning in Scripture, and John 1 just beautifully demonstrates truth. Jesus the Word, the written Word of God, the Word of faith is near us. So much good truth to think on. Thanks for your post — linking up with you today at Blessing Counters.

“We merely exist without the consumption of THE WORD of GOD”. This is so true Tai. 3 weeks ago I left the Jehovah’s Witnesses after 20 years & since then reading God’s Word has become a fresh new experience for me. Previously Bible reading was another chore to add all the other things the Watchtower organization added to their heavy yoke that they put upon us. To cast that off & come to Jesus whose yoke is easy & burden is light (This is now my favourite scripture as it holds so much meaning for me) has now made Bible reading a joy & pleasurable experience. I so love the new life I have now found in Christ.

Wow!!! Tony, that is awesome, awesome, awesome, my friend! I am so excited about all of the amazing things that GOD has in store for you in CHRIST! Twenty years is a long time to not be able to have the joy of experiencing our sweet SAVIOR! I am so glad that you’ve now found LIFE in HIM! May I ask what made you leave the Jehovah’s witnesses 3 weeks ago?

Over the past year or so I just began to question things, mostly little things but in recent months some bigger doctrinal doubts began to arise in my mind. Their literal interpretation of the 144,000 of revelation & that their is still a remnant of those still on Earth today as some JW’s claim to be, especially those in the Governing Body in Brooklyn, New York Watchtower Headquarters. By their explanation of it logic suggested to me that the literal number which they say are first fruits of the Christian congregation beginning at Pentecost, must’ve been filled in the 1st century..My wife who’s also a JW recommended I do some research. When you’re told to research it means to research in Watchtower publications only not external sources which are all regarded as apostate designed only to lure “true Christians” away from Jehovah’s Organization {the Watchtower}. During my research on that subject I came across several articles that said that Jesus is the mediator for only these few remaining members of this 144,000 class or “The Anointed as they refer to them. Only the anointed are in the new covenant too & only these partake ot the memorial of the Lord’s evening meal (communion). I didn’t know that they claimed Jesus wasn’t our mediator & when I asked my wife if she believed Jesus was her mediator she said yes. I think there are probably many JW’s who don’;t realize that they teach this. I was quite shocked by this claim & couldn’t accept it whereas my wife just goes along with whatever they say. This lead to more research but this time online which led to many ex-JW sites. I soon discovered more of their lies & deceit that they like to keep hidden from the average JW. I also discovered that while some ex-JW sites are people who are bitter & angry, and I can now understand why, but that most are very genuine people who like myself have discovered what is known as TTATT. JW’s refer to their religion as “The Truth” & TTATT stands for The Truth About The Truth. Fot most JW’s once they learn TTATT & see through the lies & deception, like me they leave. My conscience could not allow me to stay

Wow!!! Thank you so much for sharing your story with me. If your testimony isn’t something that you’ve shared on you blog, you should. You’ve always belong to CHRIST and HE has always loved you with an unconditional and never-ending love. HE longed for you. You have always been on HIS heart and HIS HOLY SPIRIT prompted you to doubt so that HE could rest in your heart as well. Please share your story with others. They need to know. Though 20 years is a long time to not know how much GOD deeply and intimately loves you, HE called you by name for such a time as this and to share HIS TRUTH that has now become your truth. I’m so glad that you visited with me today and I will be praying infinite blessings over you and your wife, my friend! 🙂

Oh, Tony….welcome to freedom in Christ! I celebrate with you and Tai upon reading this! I pray for your wife as well. The Lord’s yoke is easy and light…..Matthew 11:28-30. In Christ, you will find true rest and peace. Praise God for breaking off chains that weighed you down. I have JW friends. I understand how hard it is for them to see past it, and I love them, but I’m so glad you know the true freedom Christ offers. Blessings!
