Fighting The Battles Of Life With Joshua-like Faith

ASKS

(Joshua 10:12-14 CEV- The Lord was helping the Israelites defeat the Amorites that day. So about noon, Joshua prayed to The Lord loud enough for the Israelites to hear: “Our Lord, make the sun stop in the sky over Gibeon, and the moon stand still over Aijalon Valley.”. So the sun and the moon stopped and stood still until Israel defeated its enemies. This poem can be found in The Book of Jashar. The sun stood still and didn’t go down for about a whole day. Never before and never since has The Lord done anything like that for someone who prayed. The Lord was really fighting for Israel.)

As I read today’s focal passage it made me think about how much greater the quality of our lives could be if we all possessed that same unwavering faith in our Heavenly Father that Joshua had taken into battle with him that day. What would the reflection of our lives mirror if we never questioned or doubted The Lord’s Presence and power in our lives— but entered His Presence wholeheartedly trusting and believing that what ever we ask of Him in faith, He would liberally and graciously provide?

What astonished me about Joshua’s battle prayer is the manner in which he prayed. If you notice, he didn’t just ask The Lord to still the sun and provide the light that he needed to win the battle. His prayer was more along the lines of a faithful and declarative invocation. Meaning he didn’t ask. He simply spoke it forth in faith and trusted that The Lord would grant his request. To me, the incredible thing about that was— God did exactly that.

“The sun stood still and didn’t go down for about a whole day. Never before and never since has The Lord done anything like that for someone who prayed. The Lord was really fighting for Israel.” <— I was truly amazed by this and I contemplated why it is that God had never answered a prayer like that before and why it is that He hasn’t done it since. Could it be that it’s because we lack that Joshua-like faith? Could it be because when we enter God’s Presence it’s not with the kind of purposeful and tenacious faith needed to still the sun over our battles of life? Could it be because in our hearts we’ve already given up before the battle has even begun and we only enter The Lord’s Presence out of desperation and defeat and not with a true heart of faith and expectancy?

Today, I encourage you to let Joshua’s unfaltering faith be a reminder to you that when you enter The Presence of God and lay your concerns before Him, arise with a heart of expectancy knowing that our God is Jehovah Jireh and He will provide for those who believe in Him. (Mark 9:23 NKJV- Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”)

Just as The Lord honored the prayers of Joshua and fought for Israel, know that He can and will do the same in every single battle that you’re facing in your life. (Exodus 14:14 AMP- The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.) Enter God’s Presence in faith and believe that He will answer your prayers because your faith allows Him to still the sun creating the light you need to conquer your battles and live a life of victory.

“Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” ~ Saint Augustine

  1. If only we approached all our prayers with the faith of Joshua – to believe God really could work miracles in our lives. Too often I’ve lowered my expectations to only what the world can solve and not given God my full trust that His answers are bigger than the world.

  8. Beautiful Tai. Wow. It is amazing he just spoke it into being essentially – through faith. I am convicted dear one – I need such bigger faith. My doubts can be larger than life, but I have a God that is so much bigger. Thank you for expanding my view of God – as you always tend to do, Tai. Love you. Cheering you on from the #RaRalinkup sweet friend!

  9. I’ve also heard Joel Osteen use Joshua’s faith as an example in knowing you are highly favored. What faith, right? To know that when you ask for the impossible, like the sun not setting, God will give it to you. What boldness! I have to have a faith like that!

  11. “Could it be because in our hearts we’ve already given up before the battle has even begun and we only enter THE LORD’S PRESENCE out of desperation and defeat and not with a true heart of faith and expectancy?” How often do we go to God out of desperation as a last resort instead of going straight to Him with a heart that trusts in His faithfulness and love? His arms are open to receive us anytime. He hears and answers our prayers. They may not always be the answers we want, but they are always for our good.
