How Full Do You Want Your Net To Be???

ASKS

(Luke 5:1-11 NIV- One day as JESUS was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on HIM to listen to THE WORD of GOD. HE noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, JESUS asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So HE sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When HE had finished speaking, HE said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “MASTER,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if YOU say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before JESUS and said, “Oh, LORD, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around YOU.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. JESUS replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed JESUS.)

I love this parable because it reminds me of how empty my life was before I gave my heart to GOD and how lost I was within myself, but it also reminds me of the beauty, strength, and power that has entered my life since I’ve given my heart to GOD and how much I’ve gained within myself through HIM.

To me, essentially what JESUS was trying to get Simon Peter to realize and understand is that he could fish on his own for hours, days, months, or even years and still pull his nets back up into the boat empty, but all it takes is a single moment with GOD and the command of HIS voice and those very same nets would be ripping at the seams with HIS favor, abundantly overflowing, and filled to their fullest capacity.

Our lives and Peter’s nets are one in the same because just like his nets, we can spend our whole lives fishing around in our own strength and still lie awake at night feeling empty, incomplete, and yearning for greater when all it takes is that one moment in THE PRESENCE our SAVIOR for us to be filled completely, overflowing with HIS favor, and living a full life with a priceless purpose. What I’m saying is, we could spend our entire lives fishing around in self and we would still not gain as much as what GOD has the power and ability to provide for us in a mere second.

Think about how much time we’ve wasted in self on empty and then just imagine what GOD had the power to do with all of that time if only we had simply chosen to invest it with HIM. However, one of GOD’S true beauty’s is, it’s never to late for us to let go of self and take a hold of HIM because HE accepts us right where we are with arms open wide no matter how much time we’ve squandered. HE loves us so much that HIS heart delights at just the thought of us choosing to enter into HIS PRESENCE.

So today, I just wanted to remind you that no matter how long we fish without him, our true gain will always be greater with HIM. The question that one must ask of self is, how full do you truly want your net of life to be? The choice is yours.

I love you guys!
